Derek Brown is a spirits and cocktail expert, consultant, writer, and owner of 2017 Spirited Award winning “Best American Cocktail Bar” Columbia Room, and author of Spirits, Sugar, Water, Bitters: How the Cocktail Conquered the World published by Rizzoli in April 2019. His work has earned several James Beard Award nominations, "Author of the Year" for the 2020 Nightclub & Bar Show Awards, and 2015 “Bartender of the Year” in Imbibe magazine. He is also Chief Spirits Advisor to the National Archives Foundation and a Distinguished Fellow at Catholic University’s Ciocca Center for Principled Entrepreneurship. Brown’s writing on spirits and cocktails has appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Vox and other publications. In 2019, Washington Post restaurant critic Tom Sietsema named him one of the fifteen trailblazers since 2000 that have made Washington, D.C. a better place to eat (and drink).

After graduating from Brigham Young University, Paul started his hospitality career in Pennsylvania working in various management positions and hotels including General Manager and Regional Director of Operations before becoming a business and finance analyst in 2002. Paul joined ProfitSword in 2010 and after several leadership roles within ProfitSword is now leading the global hospitality sales efforts for the company. Paul is in charge of increasing revenues in the hospitality market, and generating leads through inside and outside sales, tradeshows, industry conferences, and client meetings. Other tasks that Paul performs include creating detailed contracts and scope documents in order to protect both client and ProfitSword interests. He is also responsible for creating a smooth transition between the sales process and implementation.
